Abhishek Bachchan reveals penchant for item numbers

There may be a mad rush in Bollywood among the leading men to hop onto the item-boyz bandwagon now,  but there’s one actor whose scores are way ahead when it comes to item songs — Abhishek Bachchan.

After all, the actor had danced to the hit One Love number in Rakht way back in 2004, which he followed up with Dus Bahane in Dus. Then there was Right Here, Right Now in Bluffmaster and then another song in Mission Istanbul among others.  In fact, this year too, the actor’s Thaay Thaay hip-hop number is what many consider item-numberish. And according to sources there are others in the pipeline too.

But ask Abhishek if he would call himself the original item boy and he waves it off.

“It’s a fun tag, but to be honest I don’t want to conform to any such titles,” he smiles, adding that the draw is not as much about doing an item song, but about enjoying the process.

"I definitely think that item songs are a lot of fun to do, I enjoy the beat and the pace and sometimes the singing too. I have enjoyed doing all of them, but strangely I've never looked at them as item numbers,” he adds. Admitting that he’d love to do more, he does reveal that he doesn't want to do them just for the heck of it and sources confirm that he’s also turned down several offers in the past.

Reluctant to reveal if all his forthcoming films — including the action thriller Players, Bol Bachchan, Dhoom 3, Dostana 2, and another one with filmmaker Puri Jagannath — will now have him do an item number, the soon-to-be-dad says, “Well this is a question that my directors would be the best to answer. But yes if they ask me to shake a leg, I won’t shy off for sure.”

As for singing? “Well, I’m game for that too!” he signs off.
