Abhay Deol likes to be environmentally aware

Actor Abhay Deol was recently featured on the cover of a green magazine and since then the actor has taken to his job of being the brand ambassador of Al Gore’s ambitious non-profit group, The Climate Project seriously.

The actor who is always conscious about saving electricity and doing his bit to ensure he does not add to the pollution, has earlier said, “Every day we unconsciously add to the rising concern of Global Warming. I save on air-conditioning at home. I don’t waste electricity and water. Even while driving if the signal is long, I switch off my car engine to avoid pollution. I don’t litter and throw stuff. These little things can make a huge difference.”
As the ambassador of what is commonly known as the Dustbin cause, the young Deol has expressed interest that he will talk about issues like human social interest, wildlife and the environment.

A source close to him says, “Abhay was the first one to have picked up the compost dustbin concept. He wanted to be able to contribute generously and lead by example and not just preach. He is very particular about these things. He knows and is aware of the environmental hazards and the ill-effects of the rising pollution levels. He tries his best to be environment friendly. For starters, he switches off all his electrical appliances when not in use and urges everyone close to him to do the same as well.”

The actor has apparently gone a step further and is reportedly building an eco-friendly home in Goa, which will leave low carbon footprints and will be energy efficient as well. Abhay was in Goa a couple of weeks back to finalise a few things on his home front and his eco-friendly house is almost ready. In fact, the actor is so kicked about the project that he plans to visit Goa, each time he gets a few days off.
