A romcom plot, Varun Badola and Rajeshwari

It’s a story straight out of a TV plot. For small screen actors Varun Badola and Rajeshwari Sachdev kept bumping each into other and always struck up a good conversation. “This went on for
almost four years. But forget romance, we were not even friends then,” Rajeshwari smiles.

Once Varun appeared on a show that Rajeshwari was hosting, but nothing happened. Then fate brought them together again for a film. Post shooting hours they talked. “It was like we felt right about certain things. We decided we need to be sensible about it if we want to take it further,” she adds.

And within a few weeks, Varun told her that he wanted to marry her. She told him he had to first get his parents approval. “Varun could hardly start the main topic of conversation. My
father asked him within five minutes whether he wanted to marry me. He answered ‘I intend to’. My father told us to discuss the pros and cons for an hour. If we agreed, he would say ‘congratulations’ and if we didn’t, he’d still say that. He then also asked Varun whether he had his own house — big or small. Varun said he had one.” Within 10 days, they got engaged and six months later they were a married couple.

It’s almost five years that they have been happy together. So, how much has the idea of romance changed over time? “I can’t even imagine a life without him. I really mean it,” ends Rajeshwari.
