A pat on the back for Divya Dutta

Actress Divya Dutta earlier garnered much acclaim when she essayed the role of a foul-mouthed kachrawali in Dilli 6 but sources say that this time, the acclaim has come from none other than Delhi’s chief-minister, Sheila Dixit.

“There was a special screening of her new film Monica, that was arranged for Sheila Dixit and she was particularly impressed by Divya’s acting. She was moved to tears at the scene where Divya (playing a high school girl) gets molested by a stranger as she bunks school to catch a romantic film,” says the source.

The scene was particularly difficult to perform because Dutta had to portray the incident only through her range of emotions as the abuse was not graphically depicted. Almost all critics, including Dixit apparently said that Divya Dutta has excelled in that particular scene.

Dutta  also admitted that the chief minister had personally congratulated her on her performance after seeing the film. “The film was shown to Delhi CM, Sheila Dixit and it was really great to get a pat on the back by her. Her interest truly encouraged all of us and we are really grateful that she made it for the screening,” she says.

Dutta  says that she didn’t do any homework for the film, but depended completely on the writer-director. “It’s the toughest role I have ever played. At the special preview, Sudhir Mishra (film-maker) also said that it was the bravest attempt on characterisation. I did not do any research, I believed completely on my writer-director Sushen Bhatnagar. He has written it fabulously. The role Monica has many layers as Monica is a complicated character,” she ends.
