A fire that cost Rs20 lakh on sets of Nagarjuna's film

It could have been a dangerous fire, with many casualties, but ended up hurting none on the sets of Nagarjuna’s latest film Rajanna Tuesday evening. This period film, being produced by Nagarjuna himself, was being shot on a specially erected set, made of plaster of Paris.

Our source from the sets says, “It happened because of an electrical spark, which triggered off an instant fire that spread all across the sets. The fact that the set was constructed using plaster of Paris made it spread quickly.”

The sets, erected in Jubilee Hills, reportedly were worth Rs70 lakh. “While we could douse the fire quickly, the nature of it was such that it got around quickly. The estimate of the losses occurred are yet to be found out, but it is likely to be around Rs20 lakh at least,” says the source.

However, there haven’t been any reports of casualties on the sets till now. Actor-producer Nagarjuna believes that this is what he is most grateful for. “I’m happy that no one was injured badly on the sets. Human life is what is dearest of all,” he responded when quizzed about the nature of the damages.

While the crew is yet to take a call on whether they will shift the location or resurrect the sets, one thing the bunch are grateful for is the fact that they’ve already completed a fair amount of the filming.
