Ajay Devgn has released the first trailer of his Diwali release, Shivaay. Karan Johar, who later announced he was releasing his Ae Dil Hai Mushkil the same Friday, releases his trailer next week. This week, we have seen how the Mohenjo Daro-Rustom clash affected business. In an ideal scenario, there would be no clashes, but when there are, there has to be a clear marketing strategy. Which both these films seem to have.

While AJ is aiming for single screens, KJo will woo the multiplex audience. Here, Ajay talks about the clash. Read on...

Karan Johar’s ADHM is releasing with Shivaay. Are you preparing for the clash?

I’m looking forward to it, but I don’t have to prepare for anything. I don’t waste my time thinking about anybody else’s film. I want to concentrate on my film because, eventually, it’s the product that speaks. Why break my concentration? I’m only concerned about what I’m making.

Why don’t producers sort out these date clashes?

They can’t even if they want to. There are only a few festivals and so many films. People are not getting dates to release their films, so you need some more holidays. Of course, it’s better that films don’t clash, but there is no choice. When I announced Shivaay, nobody had announced their film. The ADHM announcement came after us. But I guess, it’s fair enough if they want to cash in on a good day. In fact, I spoke to the people at Fox Star and showed concern over why two films have to clash the same day and if we could sort it out. But they didn’t want to listen, so that’s their choice.

What’s next for you?

The first schedule of Badshaaho begins in September without me. I cannot start anything till Shivaay releases as all my attention is now focused only on that. I start Badshaaho in November and fi nish it in a month-and-a-half (by January). After that, is Sooraj’s (Pancholi) film directed by Remo D’Souza. I will have to squeeze it in between somewhere. The film has two different tracks and contrary to what people think, mine is not a special appearance; it’s more than 20 days of work.”
