India completed a 2-0 series sweep with a 143-run victory against Ireland in the second and final T20I on Friday. After winning the first game by 76 runs, the Men In Blue put in a ruthless performance once again.
Irish skipper Gary Wilson won the toss and elected to bowl first at the Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin. India made as many as four changes to their playing XI, with medium-pacer Siddarth Kaul making his debut.
The hosts got off to a bright start, getting rid of Indian captain Virat Kohli for 9, but that was to be their last high of the day. KL Rahul got together with Suresh Raina to plunder the Irish bowling attack. Rahul, coming on the back of a superb Indian Premier League, looked flawless from the onset and stroked some classy boundaries. He fell for a 36-ball 70 and went on to win the Man of the Match award.
Raina was the other star with the bat for India. The southpaw, having failed in the first match, played some vintage shots in his 45-ball 69. Hardik Pandya, too, joined the party at the end and played a marauding knock of 32 from 9.
India went on to post 213 for the loss of four wickets in their quota of 20 overs. This was the first time India posted 200-plus scores in consecutive T20I matches.
Ireland's only chance in the chase was to do well against the pacers. They, however, lost wickets consistently from the start and never looked in the game. And once Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav came on, the result was a foregone conclusion. The spin-twins took three wickets each to help bowl out Ireland for just 70. Chahal, for his six wickets over the two games, was declared the Man of the Series.
