Punjab's opening batsman KL Rahul on Sunday became the fastest player to notch up a half-century in the Indian Premier League. He brought up the milestone in 14 balls. 

The earlier record of 15 balls was jointly held by Sunil Narine for his innings against Bangalore and Yusuf Pathan for his half century against Hyderabad. Incidently, both innings came for Kolkata. 

Rahul smashed 4 hits over the fence and 6 boundaries on his way to the milestone 14-ball 51.

He attacked Trent Boult in the very first over while got 24 runs off Amit Mishra in the third. He departed just two balls later finishing his half century at 51 off 16 balls.

Rahul's scintillating knock sealed the comfortable chase for Punjab inside the Powerplay and Karun Nair did the rest with a fine half century. It was certailny a great beginning to the season for Punjab under R Ashwin.

Earlier, Delhi has made 166 runs for 7 wicktes in the first innings thanks to a fifty by Gautam Gambhir.
