I was laughed at by family, friends: GoGreenGoCycling founder

GoGreenGoCycling goes big as its founder Prabhakar Rao CM pedals all the way to Lovedale Foundation in Horamavu to spread green awareness.

In an interview with DNA, Prabhakar shares his journey from being a chief information officer at an export company to a green campaigner.

What was your intention behind cycling for a charity foundation?
I always believe that children are the ones who can be motivated to spread goodness. Sunday being Children’s Day, it was only apt to celebrate with them and spread the message to the city through cycling. We cycled to Bal Bhavan in Cubbon Park and from there paddled down to Horamavu. We cycled 58 km up and down. We spent time with the kids and spoke to them on how they can contribute to restore the greenery of the city.

What made you think of cycling on the city streets?
In June 2008, my boss gave me a CD titled Inconvenient Truth that shook me. It drew my consciousness towards the harm that we as humans do to our mother nature. From thereon, I had only thing in mind — to bring about a change in what I do, which results in affecting mother nature.

Was the journey to this point of running a successful campaign tough for you?
When I thought of cycling to my office, I was laughed at. My family, colleagues laughed at me saying it was madness. It was after I started cycling to my office, I thought of sending this message out to people. I started with a small group which was motivated with my actions.

How successful have you been in turning heads around?
Within two years, 760 people from the city have joined me and I have started this campaign in Hyderabad, where 50 people are a part of it.
