Across the world, the imprint left by the Chinese development model is for all to see. At its core, it is expansionist and exploitative. On the current chequerboard of Asian balance of power, superpowers in the continent have often deliberated over forging alliances in a number of domains to counter the rise of unipolar Asia.

The Global Partnership Summit (GPS) is a major step in this direction. The four-day event has government leaders, think-tanks, policy-makers, industry captains, social workers, business leaders, entrepreneurs threshing out ideas aimed at building an Alternative Development Model (ADM) framework.

This model of development is expected to unveil energy-efficient, environmentally-responsible and a sustainable growth model that will help power the rise of the two countries. This initiative, led from the front by Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party’s secretary-general Toshihiro Nikai and co-chaired by Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra, will focus on building an agriculture corridor from Punjab to Tamil Nadu facilitating a smoother and expedited reach of agricultural produce throughout India.

The summit, in the long run, will help in building new paradigms and creating opportunities for strong economic growth and equitable social development for the youth demographic of India. The partnership will focus on a range of business segments – from tourism, healthcare, renewable energy to Smart City initiatives. By forging an alliance such as this, a free-flowing exchange of ideas, technological know-how and agricultural expertise will help India, as well as Japan, cultivate the best of its human resources. Additionally, with a symbiotic relationship in place, trade and business between the two countries can only go from strength to strength.
