Against the backdrop of allegations of growing intolerance in the country, that Opposition parties believe is most tellingly reflected in the restrictions imposed on cattle trade, the two-day BJP-RSS meet, beginning on June 5 in Delhi, is a move at bolstering the saffron agenda.

A consolidated approach by the ruling party and its ideological mentor to push for the latter’s manifesto of cultural nationalism can force a beleaguered Opposition to retreat. In such polarised, turbulent times, when the very ideals of cultural nationalism — that form the bedrock of a new trajectory for India — have come under fire, the RSS-BJP meet will strengthen the bulwark against a ‘distorted view of the culture of India’.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has long maintained that the organisation’s vision for the development of humanity will be the vision of the country.

It is in sync with PM Modi’s idea of a strong India that draws upon its ancient civilisational values. Clearly, one of the primary agendas for such a meet will be to monitor history books and expunge all falsified accounts that show Hindu rulers in poor light.

The Left-liberal school of thought has had a free run in imposing its perspective of historical events, often ignoring other, perhaps, more compelling, viewpoints of the same events. Such an exclusionary approach had to end. Armed with a brute majority in Parliament, and unflinching support of the RSS, the BJP can now mould inquiries into a contentious past.
