The purpose of human life on earth is consciousness evolution. Consciousness is an integral part of human personality and is beyond mind and matter, our most prized possession. Its evolution gives a direction and purpose to our life and helps us distinguish between temporal and permanent. It is the evolution of consciousness of a man which helps him ultimately realise God. As for a child the school acts as a place for the evolution of his consciousness under the guidance of the teacher. Similarly the physical world acts as a place to evolve human consciousness under the guidance of living Sant Satguru. Sant Satguru is the one whose spirit is in direct communion with the Supreme Being (God). He uses the physical world as a means to evolve man’s consciousness and to remove ignorance. Man learns through his daily life experiences and realises the temporal nature of the things here and that the attachment to these leads to sorrows. As the importance of happiness can’t be realised in absence of sorrows, similarly the importance of Supreme Being can’t be realised in absence of this physical world. The Sant Satguru thus helps us to realise our spiritual nature and guides us step by step using this physical world as a means to evolve our consciousness. So this physical world which is also referred to as ‘Maya’ is not an obstacle but a means to realise Supreme Being through the evolution of consciousness of a man.
