Addicted to number puzzles or what is popularly known as sudoku? Now, to test your logical skills, Techfest, the annual science and technology festival of IIT Bombay, is organising Indian Sudoku Championship, the Indian leg of the World Sudoku Championship (WSC). It is in collaboration with Logic Masters India.

Nikhil Kashid, Techfest 2010 media manager, said: “Logic Masters approached us and we felt it will be a good event for our festival.” About 160 participants have registered so far for the fest scheduled to be held from January 22 to 24.

All Indian nationals, irrespective of age, can participate in the championship. “The sudoku-solving skills of contestants will be tested through the regular classic sudoku as well as different sudoku variations which appear in the WSCs.  It will be a clash between the sharpest and the quickest,” said Hitesh Lalwani, events manager, Techfest 2010.

The event will have two elimination rounds. The first round of elimination would be done through two online screening rounds on January 3 and January 9. An on-the-spot elimination round will also be conducted during Techfest on January 23.

The 30 contestants from the online elimination and 30 from the on-the-spot elimination will compete again in a written test, the details of which will be disclosed during Techfest 2010. The top eight contestants will then compete at the finals to be held on the last day of Techfest. The number of rounds and marking scheme will be disclosed during the final itself. The top rankers will subsequently represent India in the fifth World Sudoku Challenge which will be held at Philadelphia in April next year.
