We won’t evaluate: PU teachers

After the leak of PU II question papers, the department of pre-university education is now faced with another problem: teachers are threatening to boycott evaluation unless their demands are met.

Karnataka State Pre-University College Teachers’ Association on Friday held a meeting, which was attended by 300 members. Thimmaiah Purle, president of the association, said they were getting a raw deal when it came to salary. He said the association had been raising the issue for quite a while now, but in vain.

He said the teachers would stage a demonstration at Freedom Park on April 8. The future course of action would depend on how the authorities respond to their demand.

Past year too, the evaluation had to be postponed because of lecturers’ boycott of evaluation. They had staged a protest demanding better pay in September again. In total, 15,372 teachers are to take part in evaluation process. Of them, 2,497 are deputy chief evaluators and 13,235 are assistant evaluators.

Except for Maths, Hindi and Sanskrit, the deputy chief evaluators have to report for work on Saturday and assistant evaluators have to report on Monday.
