Tamil Nadu-based Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) University, in its endeavour to admit quality students, will conduct its eighth edition of the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) on April 16.

VIT chancellor, G Viswanathan said 1,66,493 students had applied for the entrance, of which 1,33,291 were boys. The examinations would be conducted at 243 centres in 105 cities across the country.

“Fulfilling the demands of students from the Middle East countries, this year too we have put up centres in Dubai and Riyadh and also at Singapore,” he said. He said Andhra Pradesh tops the list of aspirants for VITEEE with 27,864 candidates.
He added that the number of candidates from Uttar Pradesh is 26,871 students and from Bihar 20,178, Rajasthan 13,781 and Tamil Nadu 11,186.

As many as 14,094 students would be appearing from 20 centres in Delhi and 2,161 from Vellore. This year 8,939 more students are taking up the examination than last year. The results will be announced on May 6 on the following websites: www.vit.ac.in, www.schools9.com, www.globalinfowings.com, www.indiaresults.com, www.minglebox.com and www.shiksha.com.

Counselling for students will be held from June 1 to 6.

Viswanathan said that to ensure that high scoring students from poor economic background are not deprived of quality education, the VIT Ignite Scholarships grant 100% tuition fee waiver for the top three higher secondary exam rank holders in each state.

The top 50 candidates in the VITEEE will get 75% tuition fee waiver. Toppers in government schools from each rural backward district in Tamil Nadu who score top marks in the VITEEE will be awarded 100% tuition fee waiver.
