The VIT University conducted the eighth edition of VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) on April 16, 2011 at 243 centres in 105 cities across the country.

The VIT University conducted the eighth edition of VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) on April 16, 2011 at 243 centres in 105 cities across the country. 

According to VIT chancellor Dr G Viswanathan, 1,66,493 students had applied for the entrance examination 8,939 more than the previous year.

"Fulfilling the demands of students from the Middle Eastern Countries, we had centres in Dubai, Riyadh and Singapore," he said.

Sankar Viswanathan, vice-president, VIT University, said, "We had four exam centres in Mumbai region - one at Koparkhairne, two at Nerul and one at Andheri.”

Noting that high scoring students from poor economic background should not be deprived of quality education, Dr G Viswanathan pointed out that under the VIT IGNITE Scholarship scheme, there will be 100% tuition fee waiver for the top three higher secondary exam rank holders in each state.

Top 50 candidates, ans students ranked 51-100 in VITEEE will get a tuition fee waiver of 75 percent and 50 percent respectively.
Results would be announced on May 6, 2011.

Counselling for the first 4000 candidates will begin on June 1, 2011; for ranks 4001 to 7000,7001 to 10000, 10000 to 13000 and 13001 to 16000 on 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th June respectively.
