They had come to appear in AIEEE but were not aware that the exam had been postponed again to May 11.

‘Unaware’ AIEEE candidates smash school’s glass door

Candidates and their parents on Sunday created ruckus at Kendriya Vidyalaya-2, Ahmedabad Cantonment, and broke the main door of the school building when no one turned up to conduct the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

The angry students were clearly unaware that the AIEEE rescheduled to May 8 for candidates appearing in the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) examination, had been rescheduled again, this time to May 11. Several parents complained that they were unaware of the new date or about its announcement.

"We had been waiting since 8 am at the exam centre as we thought the AIEEE would begin at 9 am but there was no one at the centre except three security guards," a parent said. "When the centre didn't open at 9 am and no one turned up to hold the exam, everyone was panic-stricken."

The parent said that they were told at 9.30am that the examination had been rescheduled to May 11. Around 300 candidates along with their parents had come from different cities for the examination.

Another parent, Vijay Patel, said they had come for the examination all the way from Rajkot.

"We travelled the whole night to reach Ahmedabad only for the exams," he said. "The change of date wasn't conveyed to us. The authorities should have contacted us on mobile or sent an SMS to inform us about it. If everyone is expected to check their website to find this out, why does the application form ask for the student's or parent's contact number? Now we will have to come again on May 11."

Meanwhile, the police said that Chandra Kumar Devani, vice-principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya-2 had lodged a case in this connection with the Shahibaug police station. The police have registered a case against over 200 students and their parents though no arrests had been made in the case.

It may be recalled that due to paper leak in Uttar Pradesh on May 1, the AIEEE scheduled for that day was shifted to different timings the same day. But for students who were appearing in the AFMC examination also held on May 1, the AIEEE was rescheduled to May 8. Later, however, the examination was rescheduled again, this time to May 11.
