Tech fest Tesla drove the best of ideas, innovation & technology

The recently concluded technical festival ‘Tesla 2011’, organised by MAEER’s MIT College of Engineering (MITCOE), saw an overwhelming number of over 10,000 students from more than 50 colleges across the city and country.

The three-day festival held on the MITCOE campus at Kothrud was a joint effort of all departments of the college. Participating students put up outstanding performances in various competitions, workshops, seminars and education expos pertaining to all faculties of engineering, management, science, commerce, law and so on.

With a belief that students drive ideas, ideas drive innovations, innovation drives technology and technology drives life in the 21st century, the competitions had challenging tasks that invoked the students to think originally and implement their ideas practically.

All the events were based on the requirements of the industry.

Neha Kaipel, a fourth-year IT engineering student, said, “The business plan presentation contest was a unique experience, which checked the feasibility and practicality of business ideas of students and encouraged them to think originally.”

Another third-year electronics and telecommunications engineering student, Gaurang Agarwal, said, “Organising Tesla developed my marketing and communication skills while also helping me to interact with a wide range of students from all streams.”

The projects were judged by professionals from the industry. Kaustubh Kabra, a fourth-year computer engineering student, said the ideas and suggestions given by the experts were encouraging.

Events like product development and junkyard wars tested the ability of participants to make sustainable and strategically developed products from scrap. The business plan and virtual stock market was a test of their business acumen. Township planning was a unique event where participants got a chance to plan townships of their own.

The robotics competition with the Robo Mars Odyssey, Robo Soccer and Nitro Busters, was the most popular of all events. Workshops were conducted on areas like android, animation, robotics, ethical hacking and other topics. The paper presentation and project competitions also saw a great response from students.

Jatin Bansal and Sujay Agarkar of MITCOE won the IBM iCode Wizard Championship. The runners-up were from Pune Institute of Computer Technology and MITCOE. The licenses for the Microsoft software were given to all participants.
