Teachers cry foul over CCE

The comprehensive continuous evaluation (CCE) policy introduced by the CBSE to ease out the burden on students has been making teachers toil harder than ever before. Assessment on a regular basis under CCE has increased work pressure. Maintaining several records and registers have made the whole process cumbersome, teachers say.

But, at the same time, the evaluation system has heightened the chances of academically under-performing students to score more in non-scholastic areas and give tougher competition to the academically sound students.

Teachers  complain that all this has led to increase in paperwork and strict timelines are given to complete all the non-scholastic activities. “There isn’t enough time in one period to lets say, conduct a quiz or have a discussion on a certain topic and also evaluate all the children at the same time,” said a social science teacher at SRN international.

Even the parents are not very happy and complain about their children being overworked. “My child has started getting more homework and project works now. There are more unit tests. How is this de-stressing a child?” asked Pradeep Meena, whose child studies in a convent school.

However, the students who have been average or below-average performers are happy as they work more creatively in making projects or displaying their skills.
