Surge in revaluation pleas

Thousands of SSLC candidates are seeking reassessment of their performance

Surge in revaluation pleas
There is a huge increase in SSLC candidates applying for revaluation this year.

Tuesday was the last day for SSLC candidates to apply for photo-copies of their answer-scripts. The candidates have to apply for revaluation within five days of receiving the photo-copies.

According to statistics available with the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB), over 11,000 candidates have applied for revaluation and applications are still coming in through post.

“The number is sure to cross 13,000 because applications are still coming in,” said DS Rajanna, director, KSEEB. Last year, the total number of applications received for revaluation was 11,400.

According to officials, the increase in applications is because 20,000 more candidates had appeared for the exam this year. But parents said the SSLC results have met neither their nor their wards’ expectations which could be attributed to the haste with which the valuation process was completed.

Most candidates who have applied for revaluation are not failed candidates. Instead, they are those who feel that they have been deprived of distinction or first class. The highest number of revaluation applications have come for English, Maths and Science subjects.

II PU candidates seek revaluation
Thousands of candidates who appeared for the II PU 2009 examination too are applying for revaluation.

BangaloreOne centres which issue application forms for revaluation, distributed 4,000 such forms a day after the results were announced.

There are several instances of candidates applying for revaluation in two or three subjects.

“On Tuesday alone, we received 5,400 applications for photo-copy of answer scripts. Last year, the total number of revaluation applications we received was 9,000,” an official from the PU department said.

The last date to apply for photo-copies of answer-scripts and revaluation is May 20.
