SSLC: For a change, urban students beat ruralites

Students from rural areas, who had been customarily outshining their urban counterparts, have failed to maintain their edge this year.

Each year, the rural students had been scoring over the urbanites in the SSLC examinations, but this time, the urban students secured an overall pass percentage of 62.46%, much more than the rural students who scored just 58.97%.

Compared to last year, there is a decline in the rural students' performance. In 2010, the rural students were on the top, securing 67.88% pass, while the urbanites managed to secure only 65.33%.

This year, the total number of students from rural areas was 6,18,181 and, of them, 3,64,524 cleared the exams. The number of urban students who appeared for the examination was 3,98,833 and, of them, 2,49,128 emerged successful.

Gender-bender: This year, as usual, girls outperformed the boys in the SSLC examination. Of the 3,76,852 girls who appeared for the exams, as many as 3,09,232 managed to clear them.
