The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Tuesday announced the names of subject toppers from across divisions in the state. Toppers in 15 subjects were also announced from the Mumbai division. Students received their mark sheets on the basis of the best-of-five policy.

VS Mhatre, divisional board secretary, said, “We are sending cash prizes ranging from Rs500 to Rs1,500 to the students through demand drafts. There won’t be any ceremony to felicitate the toppers.”

Shurtisha Patade from Father Agnel’s school in Navi Mumbai topped Mathematics with 150 marks and Shalaka Kale topped Sanskrit with 100 marks. “Maths has always been my favourite subject and it was my dream to score the most in it. I practised for two to three hours every day,” said Patade.

Kale is also delighted about her perfect score. “I felt great after seeing my marks, especially in Sanskrit,” she said.

Shruti Prabhu from St Anthony’s Convent School, Thane, topped English with 95 marks. Nikita Sinha was the science topper from PM Inner Wheel Memorial School, Ambarnath. Ishita Gowalikar was the social science topper with 100 marks from Balmohan Vidyamandir in Dadar.

Bhargavi Sovani and Rasika Patil from IES VN Sule School in Dadar received a special cash prize of Rs3,000. The prize was started last year for English-medium students with the highest score in Marathi.
