Gujarat University, on Saturday, hosted a three-day seminar on Library and Information Science Education in India: Vision 2020 to mark the celebration of completion of 100 years of introduction of Library and Information Science in Gujarat. The inaugural ceremony joint secretary Parliament Library, New Delhi said 'know thy users' approach required for librarians to serve the readers better.

In an internet era where information is just a click away, some 100 participants and library experts gathered at the GU senate hall. 

Vice-Chancellor of the GU, Dr Parimal Trivedi, Geeta Gadhavi, organising secretary of the conference, Prof IV Malhan, Dean, Mathematics, Computer Science and Information Sciences, Himachal Pradesh Central University, Dharmashala, Dr Jagtar Singh, president, Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science, Prof Trishanjit Kaur, general secretary, Indian Association of Teachers of Library and Information Science (IATLIS) remained present at the seminar.

Dr Chadha who released the conference souvenir and addressed the gathering emphasised on "know thy user well" to serve readers better. He said the 11th Plan the Budget for Educational Sector has been enhanced by nearly 15% from the earlier budget. He emphasized that it is important to change with time, and it is up to a good librarian to create a good library and a good library is the virtue of a good librarian.

Prof B Ramesh Babu-University of Madras, Prof AK Baradol of Mangalore University, and Prof Shailender Kumar from University of Delhi were honoured with IATLIS-Motiwale Best LIS Teacher. Also, IATLIS-Prof SP Narang Research Promotion and IATLIS- Ratna Laxman Rao were awarded the Best LIS Teacher and Professional Awards respectively.
