SC asks private medical colleges in MP to admit state quota students
The Supreme Court today directed some private unaided medical and dental colleges in Madhya Pradesh, which had violated the 50:50 seat sharing ratio, to grant admission "forthwith" to students who have qualified under the state quota.

"The students who have qualified (through combined entrance test) under the state quota should be admitted forthwith," a Bench comprising Justices Markandey Katju and V S Sirpurkar said.

The state government and 28 students, who had qualified through the CET, had alleged that three colleges-- Modern Dental College and Research Centre, Indore, R D Gardi Medical College, Ujjain, and People's College of Dental Science and Research Centre, Bhopal--were not complying with apex court direction.

The Bench also directed that Dental Council of India (DCI) be made a party in the matter and asked it to inspect the colleges about the infrastructure facilities available with them.

It said that "this order is passed under the extraordinary circumstances of the case".

The court said in the meantime, the extra students admitted by the colleges will continue to be enrolled but if DCI comes out with an adverse report in connection with infrastructure facilities, the extra admission granted under the management quota would be cancelled.
