Reform in education is key to future: Sharma

The 40th Annual Convocation Ceremony of VNSGU was held at university campus on Thursday in the presence of governor Nawal Kishore Sharma. In all, 91 students from nine different faculties were awarded gold medals and certificates, while in all 25,423 students were awarded degrees.

For the first time, annual convocation ceremony of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University (VNSGU) coincided with the death anniversary of Kavi Narmad. This year, VNSGU awarded 71 medals, 59 prizes, 12 paritoshik and 40 MPhil and 79 PhD degrees during the convocation.

Speaking at the occasion, governor expressed concern about the grim future ahead for the students, who had received their degrees during the convocation. He said that there is an urgent need for reforms in the education field, if we want to deliver a gainful future to these students.

“In today’s cut-throat competition, ordinary degree holders have no promising future and so today, less than 100 graduates out of total 25,423 are present in the ceremony. There are enough funds available for improvement in education structure and what needs to be done is to divert the amount in the right direction,” Sharma added.

“State government plans to introduce a bill in state assembly to improve the education sector. However, complete implementation of new ideas will take time and I hope that it will benefit the future students. I am sorry that if, innovation happens in education field, the students passing out today will not get its benefits, but if they continue study they can enjoy the fruit,” Sharma further said.

Padmashree Dr Sitanshu Yashchandra, who was the chief guest on the occasion, praised VNSGU for holding convocation on the death anniversary of Kavi Narmad.
“Looking at the current education structure, there are three models on which all universities can focus upon, while imparting education to its students. The models are knowledge-market model, ideology-oriented model and critical gaze model.

“Concentrating on any model can help graduates in attaining specific goals and success in life. however much has to happen though of proper implementation,” Yashchandra added Sharma
