Rat race for FYJC seats will intensify in Maharashtra

With 99.76 pass percentage in ICSE exams in the state, the students will now have to brace themselves for stiff competition from those who will pass out from the SSC board exams, results of which will be due in the second week of June.

The ATKT scheme and best-of-five scheme for the state board student is certain to push up the pass percentage of the SSC students.

“We have enough seats in the junior colleges to accommodate everyone. Although students should refrain from focusing on securing seats in only one college,” said Rekha Vijaykar, principal, Guru Harkrishnan High School, Santa Cruz.

Kirti Narain, principal of Jai Hindi College, had earlier said that students get into trouble and fail to secure seats as they rush to only a few prominent colleges. “Students should have an open mind and secure seats in any available college, instead of waiting to get admission in one popular college,” she said.

Usually, every year over 2.5 lakh students pass out from Mumbai division. “More than 2.48 lakh seats are there and several more seats will be approved during the board results in June,” said a state education department official.
