PU colleges in limbo over online admission plan in Bangalore

Pre-university colleges in the city are not sure if the pre-university department is going in for a single-window online admission system in these colleges for seats under government quota.
While the SSLC exam results will be out in May, a day after which the PU forms are distributed, the department is yet to take a call on their ambitious project.
 
Some colleges have stalled the printing of application forms. “We’ve been receiving many enquires from students and parents. However, we are not sure what to do. We have not even given the forms for printing,” said the principal of St Joseph’s PU College.

Dr SN Natraj, principal of Jain PU College, VV Puram, remarked: “We are prepared with the drafts of the application forms and are awaiting a signal from the department to go ahead.”

But others think that the online admission process will not be implemented this year and are preparing to go their own way.  Officials from colleges like Seshadaripuram College and MES College say that it is almost confirmed that the move will not take place this year. MES College is likely to go ahead with an online process for their application form.

“It is almost confirmed that the move will not be taken place. However, we have been waiting for some communication from the department,” said the official.

“We are planning to put up the college PU application online this time. We have some formalities to be completed and are awaiting approval from the management,” said L Ramu, principal of MES College of Arts, Commerce and Science.  Mount Carmel College is also preparing for an ‘offline’ application form.  However, sources in the pre-university department have their own doubt on the matter.
 
“Chances are that it may not happen this year,” said a source in the PU department.
 
G Kumar Naik, secretary, primary and secondary education, said the department is yet to take a decision.

“We planned to do it since there are a large number of applications. However, we are yet to decide on the matter,” he said.  Primary and secondary education minister Visveshwara Hegde Kageri said, “We had planned to implement it this year. We will try our level best to do so,” he said.
