Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee will address the first convocation of Shillong Indian Institute of Management tomorrow.

Altogether 63 students of the founding batch will be awarded PGDM degrees during the maiden convocation of the country’s youngest IIM.

The Shillong IIM, also known as Rajiv Gandhi IIM, will be the first ever to web cast the entire convocation. "The entire proceedings can be viewed real time across the world," an IIM statement said.

On the occasion, the institute will release a special stamp in collaboration with the office of the Chief Postmaster General of North East Circle.

Inaugurated on July 4, 2008, the Shillong IIM has since developed itself into a technologically strong setup, providing a fresh impetus to quality management education in the North East.

The first batch of graduates has received almost 100% placements.

The 63 students attracted an average salary of around Rs9.8 lakh per annum, with the highest offer for experienced students was at Rs18 lakh per annum in the domestic circuit.

There were around four international offers from Indonesia, Singapore and Dubai.
