The issue of BJP MLA's porngate in the state assembly echoed in Gujarat University's court (senate) meet on Saturday. Those senate members, who belong to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress, reflected their party's stand.

Congress members in the senate, Narhari Amin and Manish Doshi, demanded that GU senate unanimously pass a resolution criticising BJP MLAs' porngate but it was rejected by vice-chancellor Parimal Trivedi. BJP-appointed members Jagdish Bhavsar and Harshad Patel, meanwhile, criticised Congress members' efforts saying that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) has given clean chit to BJP MLAs accused in the issue.

Some major decisions like centralisation of BCom admissions were taken in Saturday's senate meeting. "The examination fee, which was Rs500 per semester (Rs1,000 for the year) has been reduced by 50%, thus reducing financial load on students. They will be now charged only Rs250 per semester. Moreover, students of economically-weaker sections can now avail scholarship on merit basis," said Manish Doshi. "Apart from this, practical examination fee has been reduced to Rs200 per year from earlier Rs500.

Installation of RO plants for clean water in university hostels was approved in the senate meet on Saturday. Also, GU library will now be open for 18 hours, till 1am at night. Also, top 10 model answer sheets will be uploaded on the university website.

Further, a resolution was passed on Sunday by GU senate, criticising state higher education department. The senate has given clean chit to Trivedi, in-charge registrar Minesh Shah and university development officer Vaishali Padhiyar in the complaint against them regarding a  controversial answer-sheet printing contract, shifting bank deposits, and college development fund.
