Panel to sort out admission glitches

Soon, there will be a mechanism in place to address students' grievances at the time of admissions. The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will issue a notification to all technical and professional colleges directing them to appoint an experts' panel, which will function from June.

AICTE chairman SS Mantha, who was addressing a seminar at the Welingkar Institute of Management Research and Development on Thursday, revealed the HRD ministry's initiative to help students tide over the gruelling admission process.

Each panel will comprise three experts — an academician, a personality from the education sector and a retired high court judge. Issues of harassment during admission, capitation fee and non-refund of fees will be addressed by this panel.

Mantha said, "During admissions, a student does not belong to any institute, as he is out of school or junior college and is not yet a student of a degree college. If he faces any trouble, where does he go? The scheme has been developed to address this concern."
