Utsav 2011, the annual techno-cultural festival of BMS College of Engineering, the most happening intercollegiate fest, is back. Former advocate general BV Acharya inaugurated the event in the college at 5.30pm on Friday.

About 20,000 engineering students from Karnataka, Goa, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai will vie in as many as 60 events including street dance, fashion show, rock fest and adventure sports to secure the top spot.

“This time round, the organisers of the event have come up with mind-blowing ideas like Indian Sudoku challenge and Indian puzzle challenge. The winners of these events get to fly to Hungary for the finals,” said Harshavardhan, a 2nd year student of the college.

This year, the organisers have also arranged a live screening of the event in internet.

“People, especially our alumni, can catch the exciting event from anywhere in the world. We started to plan for this about an year ago,” said one of the organisers.

The day one of the festival saw students sweating it out on basketball court and cricket ground. The main attraction of the day was Smudge n’ Splash. The participants were asked to use anything but paint brushes to create a work of art.

“It was a great show. It showcased the arty side of these tech students,” said Pratima, a qualified artist and the judge of the event. A debate competition on ‘One child policy, family planning, and female infanticide,’ was also held on the first day.
