NIFT unveils silver jubilee year logo

The institute has also revealed the logo of its annual event, Converge 2010.

NIFT unveils silver jubilee year logo

The director general of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), IAS Monica Garg, unveiled two logos of the institute on December 23.

One of the two logos is in celebration of the institute's completion of 25 years, while the other represents its annual event Converge 2010.

NIFT faculty K Srinivas, who has several years of experience in the advertising industry, explained the logo saying, "The logo (for the silver jubilee) is a product of team effort, and was created in a week. It resembles a wheel, denoting power, and the 15 strokes denote the 15 NIFT centres. As for the golden colour, we have chosen it keeping in mind the market trend of using metallic colours."

NIFT Gandhinagar has decided to combine two celebrations - those of NIFT's silver jubilee, and those of their annual festival Converge. And the institute's director Samita Rajora, an IFS from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, says she is only too happy with this. "The clubbing of the Converge 2010 celebrations with those of the silver jubilee is indeed something to be proud of. Students have shown immense sportsmanship in all the events so far," she says.

Reacting to the logo celebrating NIFT's 25 years, Rajora says, "The silver jubilee celebration has three aspects to it. Firstly, the new logo will be used for correspondence for a year. The second is the anthem prepared by students in honour of the completion of 25 years, and finally, there will be competitions such as face painting, T-shirt painting and poster-making competitions, which were suggested by DG Darban in order to commemorate the 25 years."

Explaining the new logo, students said that the boldness of the numeric '25 years' is to depict the raw talent at NIFT, while at the same time, it denotes the strength and confidence of the institute. The graceful lines complete the composition and the colours are strong yet  sober and are inspired by the original NIFT logo.
The logo was chosen after a tough competition among the students. The winner was Kriti Avasthi, a seventh-semester student of fashion communications at NIFT Mumbai.
