National Institute of Design show to present photography greats

This initiative of the National Institute of Design (NID) will come as music to the ears of lovers and learners of photography in the city.

They will get the opportunity to observe and learn more about the works of some well-known photographers, through a series of photography exhibitions to be hosted by the institute.

The bimonthly exhibition, which is to be organised by NID's Photography Design department in collaboration with Tasveer Arts of Bangalore, will host the works of some of the most popular photographers of the country and abroad.

Speaking about the exhibition series, coordinator of the Photography Design department at NID, Deepak John Mathew, said, "The event is for the benefit of NID students as well the people of Ahmedabad. The event is being hosted, thanks to NID's golden jubilee celebrations which begin this year. However, we are also contributing in making the city a photography hub. There already is a large group of people interested in photography in the city."

Mathew added, "The students will get an opportunity to learn from the original works of these eminent photographers."

The first exhibition in the series, called 'Face up', will commence on August 16. It will display more than 30 works of renowned photographers Anna Fox and Sunil Gupta. The exhibition, which will be hosted every two months, will display the works of photographers like Prashant Panjiar, Tim Hall, Mangum Photographers, Karan Knoor and others, in separate exhibitions.

The exhibition will also have the photographers present in person. Mathew said, "This will provide the audience and the students an opportunity to interact with and learn from the professionals."

The Photography Design department of NID was started in 2008 as a one-year diploma programme. Now, the programme has become a two-year masters programme. NID, in association with the UCA, offers a dual degree to students taking up the programme.
