Mysore girl is state topper in civil services

Sindhu B of Mysore relishes challenges. She knows that they bring out the best in her. When she realised that the most challenging job in India could be that of the deputy commissioners/district collectors, she decided to take the civil services examination.

Quitting a plum job in a software company, Sindhu straight away got down to the brass tacks. The Mysore girl’s hard work paid off in the very first attempt. Sindhu topped the state civil service examinees and scored the 17th rank.

“Working in civil services is a challenging job, particularly in India. There is ample opportunity for one’s talent and hard work,” Sindhu told DNA, hours after the results were announced by the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC).

A graduate in electronics and communication engineering from National Institute of Engineering, Mysore, Sindhu chose public administration and sociology as her subjects in the civil services exam.

Hopeful that she will be chosen for her dream cadre, the IAS, Sindhu said: “I studied very hard for one year. It is just mere hard work and determination that have made this day possibile. I must say that constant support, encouragement and motivation from family members and friends all helped me a lot.”
