MICA wins IIMA’s Shaurya Trophy

MICA emerged as the winner in 'Shaurya', IIMA's recently concluded sports festival. The friendly sports festival was organised by IIMA in collaboration with MICA and Institute of Management NIRMA University (IMNU).

Ashutosh Wadhwani, secretary, Sports Committee At MICA (SCAM), said, “Shaurya was a three-day friendly sports festival for the three institutes. It is a medium to strengthen bond between the students of three institutes.”

He said that the sporting event consisted of several disciplines like badminton, volleyball, basketball (boys & girls), throwball (only for girls), pool, table tennis (boys & girls) and chess. Three points were awarded for every victory and one point for a tie.

The matches were held from October 15-17 at the IIM-A campus. MICA's team consisting of 45 students defeated IIM-A and IMNU in badminton, basketball (girls), throwball and table tennis (boys & girls).

The final points tally read MICA - 36, followed by IIMA - 27 and IMNU at 18. Siddharth Somani, sports secretary of IMNU, said, “Shaurya took place around the same time as our annual football tournament - 'Goalz.' But the schedule was planned after due discussions amongst the three institutes so that the events don't clash with each other.”

He further said that this was the best way for them to build contacts and establish long-term networking even beyond academic lines. Being management students, such inter-college events help them to interact and know each other well.

Elaborating the reason behind holding the sports festival, Utsav Kheria, IIM-A's sports secretary, said, “I have always wanted to organise a sporting event at the local level, as Ahmedabad has tremendous sporting talent.”
He said, from next year onwards, they intend to take it to the next level, by inviting more colleges.
