Mechanical engg is top choice for IIT-JEE toppers from Guj
Although the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) across India offer a variety of engineering courses, mechanical engineering seems to a have become the favourite among IIT aspirants in Gujarat. Most of the students in the state, who have cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), plan to take up mechanical engineering.

Akash Mehta, a resident of Ahmedabad who cracked IIT-JEE and stood at 131st  rank at all India level, said, “I had always loved physics and was decided and determined to pursue mechanical engineering.” But Mehta is not the only one.

Most other students who cleared JEE have opted for mechanical engineering for various reasons. Aaditya Pandya, a resident of Ahmedabad who cleared the examination and secured 692nd rank said, “I am so happy that I cleared the entrance examination; I am planning to study mechanical engineering.”

Explaining the reason why he chose to opt for this course Pandya said, “I have a series of options, but of all those I would prefer to take up mechanical engineering. I have always loved it.” Meena Pooransinh from Gandhidham, who secured the 623rd rank, has also opted for mechanical engineering for similar reasons.

Unlike Mehta, there are students who did not pass with very good ranks. Ankit Deo, for instance, secured the 7,186th rank. “I wanted to go for aeronautical engineering, but the rank with which I have passed restricts my choice to mechanical engineering,” he said.
