‘Madness’ reigns at XIC's MADMA 2012

MADMA, the annual two-day media festival of the Xavier’s Institute of Communication (XIC), kicked off on Saturday with great excitement.  With its wide variety of out-of-the-box events, and its focus on ‘madness’, it brought the big shots of advertising and media together for several workshops and events.

Day one saw short-film screenings and an event called ‘Junkapella’, where participants had to create music from non-musical instruments; this was judged by Luke Kenny of Rock On fame. In ‘Breaking News’, participants had to play the role of a reporter covering a murder mystery.

Another interesting event was ‘Convince Me’, where participants were given topics that contrasted with the judge’s perception, and their task was to convince the judge.

Malini Patnaik, PR for the organising committee of MADMA, said, “Day one witnessed great enthusiasm, though the events were on the lighter side. On day two there was more of a crowd, as it was a Sunday. The interesting workshops were on Sunday, which included a stand-up comedy show.”

On Thursday, February 9, a street play was conducted by MADMA students at the Kala Ghoda Festival. Rima Wadhwa, a student, said, “The play sent across waves of madness.  The theme of the festival was ‘madness’, so the idea behind the play was to bring forth the madness in every person.”
