LD engineering students bag Rs7 lakh pay package

LD engineering students were lucky with their placements in the first month of the 8th semester this year, when packages were as fat as Rs7 lakh and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) recruiting the highest number of students.

Principal of LD College, MN Patel said that the college has already received the top eight best companies in the first month of placements and six more top companies are expected in the month of September.

Patel said, "It is a record in LD's 61 years that nearly 50% of its students have got placed, within a month's time period after placements started. Till now, 143 students have got placed across eight companies that had come for campus recruitment. Of this figure, 55 students have been recruited by TCS. The packages offered to students are also in the range of Rs3-7 lakh."

Of a total of 650 students in LD's final semester, nearly 350 students had opted for placements. Explaining the reasons, Patel said that most other students either opt for higher studies in India and abroad, or join family business or turn entrepreneurs. "Only the remaining opt for campus placements to get corporate experience. Following these eight companies, additional six companies are coming in the month of September for campus placements, including Reliance, wherein we are hoping that the remaining students will get placed," he said.

Generally campus placements at LD College are conducted after Diwali and placements continue till at least January. However, this year, placements were carried out in the first month of the beginning of the 8th semester in August.

Besides TCS, the other companies who have absorbed students include Larsen and Toubro with 31 students; Cybage with 20; Mahindra & Mahindra with 10; Elite Core with 9; Tata Motors with 8; and Linde Company and Shaporji & Palonji with 5 students each.
