Élan-e-India, a battle of management skills

Élan-e-India, a mega management fest, organised by Marathwada Mitramandal’s Institute of Management Education, Research & Training (IMERT), was held recently. Over 30 management colleges from the city participated in it.

“This is the 10th year of our fest and this time we have a new theme. We have focussed on the lighter side of management instead of its stereotype,” said director of IMERT, Sharad Joshi at the inaugural ceremony. Veteran actor Lalan Sarang was the chief guest and she felicitated the winners of the various competitions that were held.

In ‘Chakravyuha’, a treasure hunt, students had to decode clues in the radius of 5km. Dhananjay Dobe and Safal Dhasade of ASMA institute of Management did exceptionally well in this contest and emerged as the winners. Hemant Pandit, a first-year MBA student of MIT College of Engineering’s Centre for Management Studies & Research, said, “It was a great opportunity for us and the game was planned very well.”

Shama Joshi, Teena Gupta and Uzma Qureshi of the Hiraben Nanavati Institute of Management and Research for Women grabbed the first prize in the ‘Management Scenario’ competition. Participants were given case studies to experience real-life situations, conflicts and find solutions for them.

‘Movie masala’ was a unique contest in which students had to identify management lessons from video clips and explain them in their own styles. Participant Swati Somani, a student of the Management Institute for Leadership and Excellence, said, “It was a wonderful experience. We chose a clip from the film Rocket Singh. We tried to explain the importance of how every employee has hidden qualities and plays a crucial role in the company’s success. The key is to find those qualities and utilise them in the right manner — that is what management is all about.”

The fourth event that saw enthusiastic participation from the students was ‘Management through cartoons’. For this, students had to use their intellectual skills in an artistic way by making cartoons related to any management issue.

In addition, they had to explain the concepts behind what they had made. Abhishek Bandodkar and Monika Magarde of Pravara Centre for Management Research and Development bagged the first prize for both ‘Movie masala’ and ‘Management through cartoons’.
