Kids get Gujarat University aid in career move

Tushar Patel (name changed) is a student of standard X. Like most others, Tushar's parents also want him to bag a lucrative career option, irrespective of any specific stream and job choice.

School going Tushar is also not very clear about his career prospects and so they decided to take up a career interest test at the newly inaugurated laboratory for psychological tests at Gujarat University. After doing this at the recently inaugurated 'Psyche Netron Ikos" laboratory at the GU's Department of Psychology, Tushar realised that he wants to become an automobile engineer.
Now, as he prepares for the standard X exam, he reads with great concentration and a firm decision of opting for Science stream in his further studies. As the board exams are approaching, like Tushar, 5 more kids have taken a career interest test at the laboratory to help them decide on their career choice.

"The test is gaining popularity as crucial exams are ahead. In the career interest test we help give clarity to students in a pen-paper
test where we ask questions related to artistic, scientific, business related, humanitarian, persuasive and other fields. So far, the test has generated accurate results," said head of the department of psychology, Ashwin Jansari.

He said, they have a team of six experts who take the test and analyse the career interest. For all the students and parents wanting clarity in career option, Jansari has a word of advice. "Standard X is late for such tests. We want to spread awareness that the test should be taken in class 8. Clarity at that stage gives them the mood for serious study and they prepare accordingly," he said.

The lab will also be used for IQ test and is waiting for the right equipment to start this facility, he said.
