Karnataka SSLC exams to start

The Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations for the year 2012 will begin from Monday and will be held at 3003 centres across the state.

They will be held till April 16 and about 7,68,535 candidates are appearing for the exams. Out of that 6,89,075 are freshers, while 70,460 are repeaters, as per the figures provided by the Karnataka Secondary Education and Examinations Board (KSEB).

The board has identified 273 centres as sensitive and 70 as super sensitive. To oversee the examinations board has formed sitting and flying squads for each centre.

“For the first time we have formed inter division squads. The squads from Bangalore will be shifted to Mysore and the same procedure will be followed at each division,” a senior official of the department said.

To reduce examination anxiety amongst students a helpline started by the board is already active from March 19 from 3pm to 5pm. Experts from NIMHANS, SAMUDRA (NGO) and board officials are attending the calls. The helpline (080-23312245/46) will be active up to April 16.

“We are getting at least 40 calls per day. Most are from students expecting guidance for time management. There are few who are worried about their first board exam. We are trying to build confidence in them,” said an official managing the help line.
