It is the season of examination results. In a series of such events now, the results of the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) 2010 was declared on Sunday. And Bangalore’s students are not only touching heights in these examinations with great scores, but are also setting their goals high, eyeing admissions into the elite Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and various National Institutes of Technology (NITs).

With the IIT-JEE and AIEEE scores in hand, DNA checked on some of the students who touched the skies in both, and found that IIT was still a preferred destination for the under graduate engineering courses.

Mardava Rajagopal, a student of Deeksha Centre for Learning in Bangalore, who also cracked the IIT Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) securing an 867 rank, topped the AIEEE in the state. “I am extremely happy to have topped the AIEEE in the state,” says a jubiliant Mardava, adding, “I give full credit to my preparation for the IIT-JEE. It was the effort that I put into cracking the IIT-JEE that helped me do well even in the AIEEE.”

Ask him about his choice of college for the under graduate engineering course, and pat comes the reply: “IIT of course. Any of the 15 IITs, but I personally prefer doing either computer or electronic engineering in IIT Madras. These institutes are the best in the country, better than any other college, and that’s where I want to study,” says Mardava.

Vidya Muthukumar, who stood third in Karnataka in the AIEEE, also cracked the IIT-JEE at ranking number 109. “It’s computer science at IIT, and preferably IIT Madras,” comes the reply from this student of National Public School, Indiranagar.

“It has been my dream to study in  IIT. I worked very hard for it, and have been able to crack the AIEEE with help and support from my teachers, parents and my coaching centre,” says Vidya.

The AIEEE was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education on April 25 this year. Over 11.5 lakh students appeared for the examination from 1,623 centres across 86 cities in India and abroad. The results of the AIEEE can be accessed from the websites cbseresults.nic.in and aieee.nic.in

Online counseling for admission into engineering colleges will begin on June 8, and students who have qualified in the examination are eligible for admission into B.Tech programmes of the NITs, Indian Institutes of Information and Technology (IIITs), Delhi Technological University, various deemed universities, and a few institutes in the states of Uttarakhand and Haryana.
