Jinxed TY BCom paper battles leak rumours

Rumourmongers are having a field day. After the fiasco due to the “accidental” distribution of the third-year (TY) BCom marketing and human resources management paper a day before the scheduled day of the examination on March 28, rumours of another leak have begun doing to the rounds.

The timing couldn’t have been worse; a re-examination of the paper will be held on Wednesday.

To stave off any possible repeat of the chaos that followed the leak, Dr Subhash Deo, director of examinations, University of Mumbai, clarified on Tuesday that there is no truth in the rumours.  “Reports of the paper leak are just rumours. I have got four SMSes with different questions, which anybody can pull out from the question bank given at the start of the academic year,” he told DNA.

On being pointed out that the SMSes carry a question paper code — 1080 — to prove their alleged authenticity, Deo said, “The university doesn’t have that sort of coding. Students must concentrate on the examination, which will be conducted at the same centres where they were held the last time.”

He assured that all measures are in place to make the system “foolproof”. He, however, refused to divulge more, citing confidentiality issues.
