Integrated course to hit parents

While the minsitry of human resources and development (MHRD) is yet to take a call on the ISEET, several coaching centres have already decided on their course of action. They have tied up with various junior colleges, and are now planning a major expansion, adding more colleges and increasing the number of batches.

Instead of training students for IIT-JEE, for which they have been known for years, they have now come up with ISEET coaching classes. Since HSC marks will comprise up to 40% in the exam now, the centres know they don’t have to advertise the importance of coaching for the 11th and 12th grades now. MHRD has done this job for them.

An ICSE student aspiring for IIT, Shubham Gupta has enrolled himself for an admission test to a hybrid college. He says, “This centre is already a big name in this field, and they are offering ISC as well.”

The course will cost his parents Rs5.5 lakh for two years - Rs1.5 lakhs for ISC and nearly Rs4 lakhs for ISEET.  The integrated course fee is within the same range at other centres.

As the demand soars, centres are planning to hike their fees well.
Pravin Tyagi, head of IITian-Pace, admits, “We will now charge Rs3.5 lakhs plus taxes, instead of Rs3 lakhs, for JEE’s new syllabus. HSC fees will continue to be Rs50,000 annually.”

Centres claim that the high costs are justified by their employment of the best teachers and proposed addition of the aptitude test and comprehension. “We have revamped the syllabus and teaching material to match the new pattern,” they said.
