An IIM Shillong student, Akhil Tandon, bagged the grand prize of Rs1.5 lakh for winning the flagship event, Last Man Standing (LMS), at the annual management and cultural festival Transcend 2012 hosted by the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM).

A 72-hour test for students in every facet of management, LMS saw over 510 students participating in the off-campus round of which only 20 were shortlisted.

Speaking about his experience, Akhil said, “It was a great experience for me because I had never been part of an event of such a magnitude. It tested the mental endurance of the contestants and not the physical.”

LMS coordinator Ankit said, “The event tests the contestants’ knowledge of theoretical concepts of management and how they survive and surmount the challenges by applying these concepts in real life. The event is one of the biggest and toughest management events in B-School fraternity in Western India.”
The three-day fest, Transcend 2012, saw participation by students from 83 B-schools and over 100 colleges from all over the country in nine management and four cultural events.

The events ranged from case studies to quizzes, B-plans, choreo-nites to rock shows, keeping with the theme of the festival ‘Yuvalution- Passion for Change’.

The EStrategia competition was a strategy event that saw the highest number of participants. It started with an online quiz in which around 1,595 students participated, out of which 8 teams were shortlisted for the final rounds. The winning team comprised Harsha Raghupathruni (SIBM, Pune), Abhimanyu Roy (MICA), Pawan Upadhyay (IIT-Roorkee) and Radha Krishnan Iyer (SCMHRD, Pune).

The Crimson Soul, a fashion show themed around number 7, was the show-stealer, with former Miss India Natasha Suri judging the event. On the final day, students enjoyed scintillating performances by Indian rock bands Ashwamedh and Faridkot.
