IIM Ahmedabad’s new admission process leaves many fuming

CAT coaching experts criticise these changes in AR system.

Parasharan Chari, chief operating officer of Endeavor, a city-based coaching class said, "Last year, there was Application Rating system but candidates with good percentiles had chances to get calls from IIMA, which is not the case this year. Changes in the Application Rating system this year will affect freshers, who have just received their bachelor's degree. It should be noted that 1 percentile means at least 2,000 students. So the candidate behind 4,000 students can get admissions on the basis of his PG degree and work experience, whereas the fresher, who is at the top in those 4,000 can be denied admission. Lack of transparency in whole system is adding to the woes of the candidates."

Moreover, this time there was delay in sending the calls to the deserving candidates. Students complained that the list of eligible students uploaded at the IIMA website is not resolving the increasing ambiguity about their entry into the institute.

Chari said, "There is no clarity in sending calls to students, and they don't have any option but to wait. Students have started receiving calls from IIMA, IIM-Kozikode and IIM-Calcutta."
