The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) has a reason to smile as it celebrates its golden jubilee. In the past five decades, IIMA has been able to establish itself as one of best B-schools of the country.

It recently started a mid-career programme - the one-year Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPX) for with substantial work experience and it has been ranked 11th globally by the Financial Times in its Global MBA Ranking of 2011 of top 100 B-schools.

London Business School (LBS), UK, University of Pennsylvania, Wharton, USA and Harvard Business School (HBS), are among the top three B-schools respectively. Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, the only other Indian B-school in the list of 100, has been ranked 13th.

The average salary of its students has been listed as $174,440, higher than that of LBS and HBS. PGPX was started at IIMA in year 2005 with the aim of giving opportunities to mid-term career professionals to upgrade their skill base. The class capacity has been scaled up substantially since its launch six years back. The average work experience of each student is 10 years.

The course is also known to give striking opportunities to participants to opt for a career switch, overhaul their job profiles or grab a substantial jump in the corporate ladder.
