IGNOU launches courses in animation

Keeping in mind the animation boom and the demand for professionals to satiate the same, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has started three new programmes. To offer these the varsity has collaborated with Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC).

A degree course in Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 3D Animation and Visual Effects, an 18 month Diploma in Computer Generated Imagery and a six month Certificate course in Film Making are on the cards. "The classes will be conducted across 63 MAAC centres across the country. And the course content and delivery will be according to the IGNOU style of teaching," said Yogesh Panjanani, vice president, MAAC.

"Faculty and the animation software will be provided by MAAC. We will provide the theoretical content and also monitor the training provided," said Shambhu Nath Singh, director, School of Journalism and New Media Studies (IGNOU).

A joint coordination committee comprising experts from both IGNOU and MAAC have designed the curriculum. It will train students in animation skills and also impart soft skills, business and production management training, and an orientation to student on an actual project of creation of content.

"In the degree course, subjects like organisational behaviour and English are made mandatory. Hence, by the end of it students will be industry ready along with the animation skills," explained Panjanani.

Students will be selected via an entrance test for all the three programmes followed by an interview. "It will be an aptitude test to judge the computer knowledge and ability of the candidate applying for any of the three programmes," said Singh.

"Post the completion of the courses placement help will be given by both the institutes.
