ICSE parents in object to sports merit marks

A group of seven parents of ICSE students have moved the Bombay high court against the state board’s policy of giving additional 25 marks to students for participation in state-level sports.

A parent of a student from Bombay Scottish School said: “The state board students get additional marks for achievement in state-level sports. But, students from ICSE and other boards are not considered for the same. The policy is unfair.”

Puja Thorat, counsel for the ICSE parents, said: “The court will be
hearing our case on July 7. Since the court has not put a stay on the admissions, the state government will take time for starting the process afresh. The admissions may not begin soon with the new developments.”

Madhuri Achmani, a student of Manjunath Vidyalaya, Dombivli, said her score dropped from 100 to 98% after the best-of-five policy was scrapped. “If the sports marks are not taken into account, my score will drop to 94%.”

“When people say my marks are ‘undeserved’, they don’t know I balanced archery with my studies,” said Shubham Sanap from Children’s Academy, Malad. Shubham’s marks dropped from 91 % to 87%.
