HSC students in Mumabi disappointed as 3rd list fails to bring good news

Students who had pinned hopes on the third merit list were disappointed on Tuesday. Several colleges did not put up a third list for professional courses as there were no vacancies.

“We didn’t put up a third list as our seats across all courses are full. We are starting our first year classes from Thursday,” said St Xavier’s College principal Father Frazer Mascarenhas.

While the final list is awaited on June 24, many elite colleges had either wrapped up admissions after the second list itself.

Jai Hind College principal Kirti Narain said: “We didn’t have a third
list for professional courses. For BA and BCom, cutoffs are down by 3% and 1%, respectively. There won’t be a fourth list.”

Ruia College, which plans to start first year classes in the next five days, also said the fourth list is unlikely.

“Those who didn’t get a college of their choices will have to be satisfied with wherever they have got admission. It’s one’s performance in the next three years that matters,” said a principal.

At DG Ruparel College, students are competing for barely 10 seats. “This is the last list. Final cut-offs this year are slightly higher than it was last year,” said vice-principal Tushar Desai.

At HR College, while BCom admissions had closed, dip in cut-offs for self-financing programmes ranged from 0.2 to 0.67%.

“There could be fourth list for BCom in banking & insurance (BBI) and accounts & finance (BAF), but admissions will get over for BCom in financial markets (BFM),” said principal Indu Shahani.
At Dahanukar College, the seats were full for most programmes. “We’ve declared a third list for six seats in BBI and around 12-15 seats in BFM. We won’t have a fourth merit list,” said college principal, Madhavi Pethe.

However, at NM College there could be a fourth list. Currently, there are at least 22 seats left for BMS and first year classes could start by July 1.
